According to the news released by The Wall Street Journal, Washington will decide in the next few weeks the use of the battlefield blimps to prevent the crossing of undocumented immigrants and drug traffickers through the border between the two countries.
The measure would include dozens of surveillance blimps operating in the US border with Mexico, equipped with cameras, and infrared sensors, as those used to trace insurgents in Afghanistan.
The project is part of a bigger attempt of White House officials to establish a state-of-the-art surveillance network in the US-Mexico border, and find alternative uses to the costly military equipment that have drifted over military bases throughout Afghanistan.
